About Me

I’ve lived in Sublette County most of my life. I was that teenage waitress talking politics at Billy and Annette Pape’s Patio Grill while working the morning shift, graduated from Pinedale High, and married my oilfield roughneck boyfriend Jim at the age of 20 (38 years ago). Our son Cass graduated from Big Piney High School before Jim and I moved out to the Big Sandy area where we run livestock.

I began my journalism career at the Pinedale Roundup before becoming one of the founders of the Sublette Examiner. I stepped away from the newspaper business to write non-fiction books, but continued in journalism and owned and edited a national sheep industry magazine for 12 years before selling the magazine earlier this year. I’ve been a weekly columnist for Cowboy State Daily since its founding, and I write for a variety of other publications as well. I’ve written the annual State of the County report for the Sublette County Commission for the last 16 years.

I’ve been a Republican since I registered to vote at the age of 18 and have served as a precinct committeewoman, county party chair, and member of the State Central Committee. I’ve volunteered or donated to Republican candidate campaigns each election cycle for decades.

I’m a reader and a writer with works published in articles, opinion columns, books and various news media, and scientific journals. I have a history of holding public officials accountable, fighting for the underdog, promoting open government, researching and reporting on the facts, and challenging governments to improve flawed programs, including suing the federal government.

Board Service

I’ve served on a variety of local, state and national boards, including the county library and predator boards, a variety of issue-oriented committees (forest, resource and wildlife management) and livestock industry organizations, as well as the organizing committee for the Wyoming Sheep & Wool Festival. I’m a frequent speaker at events and conferences on natural resource issues.
